A new Sydney-based band comprising three musicians individually defining the new generation of Australian jazz in Sabine Tapia, Thomas Odell and Matt Simmonds.
The band draws from a range of musical influences including folk, improvised music and contemporary jazz. With each member having graduated from the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium of Music jazz program, the band assumes a multi-faceted approach to playing as an ensemble — eschewing the traditional notion of the ‘individual’ and instead prioritising a collective identity which, though shaped by each member’s distinctive creative voice, blends to achieve a result even greater than the sum of its parts.
Having recorded their debut album in late 2025, Murmurations is an ensemble whose three streams of sound interweave between textures, space and density while maintaining a sonic foundation which is uniquely their own. This is a band to watch out for.
