A series of snapshots from SIMA’s rich archives focusing on the moment of creation, the split second experience, the rare and fleeting moments of magic that are the illusive art of the improviser.
We celebrated our 40th anniversary of support for jazz and improvised music in Sydney with a photographic exhibition featuring the images of Jane March, Joe Glaysher and Shane Rozario, three figures instrumental in the organisation’s documentation over the years. Jane was both the coordinator of SIMA and its resident photographer from its founding. Joe worked by her side, capturing some of the most esteemed artists of the era on their SIMA-supported visits to our shores. The exhibition provided an insight into the deep history of creative music in Australia, and introduced a new generation of jazz lovers to the founding mothers and fathers of the Sydney sound. The collection represented here is but a slice of the organisation’s historical archive, and the collection will continue to be built upon, creating a living monument. We offer heartfelt thanks to Jane and Joe for their unforgettable contributions to SIMA’s history.
