“This project represents a deep reflection of my musical past and a more spiritual approach to music. The whole session felt magical to me… I was in awe of how everyone played”

– Max Alduca
Sydney-based double bassist and composer Max Alduca hits the road this August with an exceptional quintet, celebrating the release of his debut album Monastery—a meditative and deeply personal exploration of sound, spirituality, and connection.

Featuring some of Australia’s most acclaimed jazz voices—Hilary Geddes (guitar), Michael Avgenicos (tenor sax), Luke Sweeting (piano), and James Waples (drums)—the Max Alduca Quintet brings Monastery to life in an eight-date tour across Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, and Victoria.

Drawing on Alduca’s reflections during a transformative period of study in New York, Monastery blends contemporary jazz with free improvisation and cinematic textures. The album offers listeners a journey through stillness, intensity, and expressive freedom—anchored by the quintet’s deep musical rapport and the sensitive production of legendary bassist Lloyd Swanton (The Necks).

Don’t miss the chance to experience the Max Alduca Quintet live on stage—where their dynamic interplay and emotional depth promise to leave a lasting impression.
