GAI BRYANT TOURS CARIBE! IN 20/21
Live Cuban jazz, dance, chanting and storytelling!
Sydney based group Caribé are excited to be part of the live music revival and in 2021 take their ‘Havana Return’ show on tour in regional NSW and Queensland. The group, which features some of Australia’s leading jazz and Latin musicians, crafts traditional and classic Cuban music forms into a contemporary setting, resulting in a performance that is unique and fresh.
Led by Gai Bryant, the percussion and rhythm section set up a crackling, thunderous bed for expatriate Cuban Adrian Medina to dance and the group to solo over. The constant push and pull between powerful percussion and stunning melodies creates a dynamic tension that draws you in and invites you to dance in your seat – and hopefully on the dance floor as COVID restrictions relax!
The Financial Review have called “Gai Bryant is one of the brightest lights in the local jazz scene” with Caribé delighting audiences in sold-out shows at the 2020 Sydney Women’s International Jazz Festival and the Lismore City Hall. Seeing Caribé live is a communal experience incorporating chants, stories and percussive elements deeply rooted in rumba and Afro-Cuban spiritual practice that encourages participation.
Gai Bryant (alto & soprano saxophone), Lee McIver (trumpet), Juan Carlos Allende and Steve Marin (percussion), Julian Gough (tenor saxophone), Jacob Parks (trombone), Josh Spolc (bass), Daniel Pliner (piano)[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
