Soaring power and delicate nuances make 2003 Freedman Jazz Fellow Kristin Berardi one of Australia’s most gifted jazz singers. Having received every notable national jazz prize as well as the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival’s International Vocal Competition, Kristin’s original compositions and peerless interpretations showcase her exquisite timbre and effortless improvisations.
For this exclusive double-bill, Kristin will pair with two of Australia’s most esteemed jazz artists to present a program of new music in two sets; in duo with National Award-winning bassist Sam Anning; and with Don Banks Award Winner, legendary pianist Mike Nock.

Highly regarded as one of Australia’s most exciting improvising pianists, pianist Marc Hannaford combines elements of 20th century music, rhythm and meter to create multi-faceted and energetic contemporary improvised music.
Based in New York since receiving his 2013 Freedman Fellowship, Marc Hannaford has been busy establishing an international career and has become recognised for original compositions that are “complex, cerebral, intricate, and swing mightily” (John McBeath, The Australian).

This performance is part of Hannaford’s 2019 national tour.

Join us in the atmospheric and iconic 301 Studios where you can be part of Australian jazz history when 2006 Freedman Fellow and National Jazz Award winner Julien Wilson meets ARIA award-winner Jonathan Zwartz, luminary pianist Mike Nock ONZM and industry legend Hamish Stuart. This live recording will document the very first time this Australian jazz super group have collaborated creatively.
