Hinterlandt is a progressive chamber-jazz quintet from Sydney, known for the detailed compositions and elaborate string arrangements written by their guitarist Jochen Gutsch. This show at the intimate and cozy Lazybones “Level 1” room will be an opportunity to witness the band’s process of transitioning from their indie-chamber works towards a more jazz-oriented phase. Audience members have compared the new sound to Kurt Weill, Mark Ribot, and soundtracks for Fellini films.
The evening will begin with a solo set by award-winning flautist, pianist and composer Keyna Wilkins, whose music is characterised by a passion for human rights, astronomy, Indigenous culture, jazz, intuitive improvisation and existential quests.
