The Sydney Improvised Music Association with the support of APRA AMCOS is inviting applications from young composers to write a new work for a large (10-piece) jazz ensemble to be premiered at the 2019 Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival held in November.

As part of the project, the chosen composer will be paired with a leading Australian jazz artist who will act as a mentor during a 16-week creative development period. Further professional development will be offered, as the work will be recorded and mixed as part of the project.

Applications are open to everyone aged 30 years or under as of May 31st 2018 who resides in Australia or New Zealand. You must be available to meet with your mentor weekly at times suitable to you and your mentor between June and October 2018 and attend rehearsals in the lead-up to the festival. The successful composer must agree to submit an artistic report upon competition of the project.
