The Sydney Improvised Music Association and APRA AMCOS are inviting applications from young female composers to write a new work for a large jazz ensemble (ten pieces) to be premiered at the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival.

As part of the project, the chosen composer will be paired with a leading Australian jazz artist who will act as a mentor during a 16-week creative development period. During the project, the recipient will workshop the commission with Pharos, before its world-premiere which will include a recording.

Applications are open to women aged 30 years or under as of June 12, 2020 who resides in Australia or New Zealand.

You must be available to meet with your mentor weekly at times suitable to you and your mentor between June and October 2020. The successful composer must agree to submit an artistic report upon competition of the project. 

Who is eligible to apply? Composers who identify as women, and gender minorities who feel they would benefit from a program designed for women in music. All applicants must be APRA AMCOS members.
