"2012 was  a year of celebrations to honour the 75th birthday of one of Australia's leading jazz musicians, SIMA toured Bernie McGann's renowned quartet to CANBERRA, SYDNEY, BATHURST, ARMIDALE and LISMORE.

Widely recognised as one of the most important artists Australia has produced in the 20th Century, saxophonist/ composer Bernie McGann has been described as “one of the glories of Australian music”  (Sydney Morning Herald).

He has contributed greatly to the contemporary jazz scene here and abroad, winning many awards and gaining widespread critical acclaim, while audiences hold him in the highest esteem. His music is highly original and he has clearly influenced generations of younger musicians with his daring and unique style.

His current quartet is a very exciting combination of players whose regular playing has created a very tight group with a strong sound and rapport. A genuine living Australian jazz legend.

Bernie McGann (saxophone)
Warwick Alder (trumpet)
Brendan Clarke (bass)
Andrew Dickeson (drums)

Bernie McGann Quartet will release a new recording, Wending, on independent record label RUFUS RECORDS.
