The vampires - Pacifica australian tour 2019
SIMA is delighted to support the Vampires next tour. Two of the Vampire musicians Nick Garbett and Jeremy Rose were part of SIMA’s inaugural Artist Development Program launched in 2012 to assist professional jazz musicians by creating more opportunities to develop their careers.
The Vampires feature award winning saxophonist/composer Jeremy Rose (2009 Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year, 2012/2013 Freedman Finalist, 2012/2013), trumpeter/composer Nick Garbett (2018 Freedman Jazz Winner), bassist, Alex Boneham (2012 Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year and recipient of a scholarship to the prestigious Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz (Previously Thelonious Monk Institute), and drummer/percussionist Alex Masso.

Hear more from The Vampires:

The Vampires are trailblazers for a new generation of creative jazz talent from Australia, having gained critical attention worldwide by pushing the genre into new realms. Creating a distinctive sound that is undoubtedly their own, the band has garnered praise from US Downbeat (“phenomenal”), UK Guardian (“seductive genre hopping creativity”), The Saturday Paper (“one of my favourite albums of the year”) and All About Jazz (“gold all over”). The Vampires have received nominations for Australia’s ARIA awards, Bell Awards, AIR Awards, and were the first instrumental act to be short-listed for the Australian Music Prize.

"If jazz music is about continuously reinventing and staying on your toes, then 'The Vampires Meet Lionel Loueke' is a phenomenal jazz record by a worldly, talented, and newly minted five-piece band." ****  Chris Tart (Downbeat)

“Seductive, genre-hopping creativity: The references embrace reggae, classic Cuban son, high life, pre-electric Miles Davis and hints of Blue Note soul-jazz or Henri Texier’s cinematically scene-setting music..." ****  John Fordham (The Guardian UK)
