SIMA is committed to supporting the jazz sector and providng professional development opportunities to musicians.  In 2012 we launched our Jazz Career Program, (formerly Artists in Transition AiT) program which aims to support professional jazz musicians by creating more opportunities to further develop their careers.

Inaugural artists for this program are Jackson Harrison (winner 2008 National Jazz award), Nick Garbett (3rd place 2010 National Jazz award) and Jeremy Rose (2009 Bell Award for Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year) and singer Jo Fabro (finalist 2005 National Jazz award, Triple J Unearthed artist).  In 2013 we will also be working with Virna Sanzone.

This new initiative supports artists who are beyond ‘emerging’ stages.  It offers support to enable them to reach the next stage of their careers as professional practising artists. The artists receive touring and special performance opportunities, funding advice and information, master-classes and business support over a two year mentorship period. The program also builds support networks to assist with career development.

The initial two-year pilot program began in 2012.
